Indie Developers and More than 60 Streamers Sign-Up for the First Annual Farming February, a No Kid Hungry Fundraiser

Farming February is a celebration of the crossover between the real world agricultural community and games that feature farming mechanics. All funds raised support No Kid Hungry’s work to end childhood hunger in America.

WASHINGTON D.C. - Farming February, a virtual event benefitting No Kid Hungry, is a celebration of the pivotal role agricultural communities play in feeding the world. This event features streamers playing a range of games with farming mechanics, from the serious (like Farming Simulator) to the quirky (like Graveyard Keeper). In between streams, viewers can relax with a 24/7 chicken cam as they wait for the next of 60+ streamers to begin their unique take on fundraising for No Kid Hungry.

“Farming is such a key part of the world’s food supply,” Carla Warner, director of revenue innovation for No Kid Hungry, says. “But like the prevalence of farming ideas in gaming, the real impact of farming can be invisible if you don’t look for it. We hope Farming February changes that, helping players around the world see just how important agriculture is, from how it feeds children in need to how it inspires game developers.”

According to Warner, the idea for the event sprang out of a discussion with GIANTS Software, the developers behind the highly successful Farming Simulator series, about how much crossover GIANTS saw between real-world farmers and Farming Simulator streamers and esports athletes.

“We learned that many of these streamers were farming by day and streaming by night,” Warner says. “That was really inspiring, so we started to talk to more developers behind farming games and discovered these amazing communities of players and streamers who were not just passionate about games, but also about doing good.”

The following developers and publishers provided keys and promotional resources to help bring Farming February to life:

  • GIANTS Software (Farming Simulator)
  • tinyBuild (Graveyard Keeper)
  • Hop Frog (Forager)
  • SmashGames (Littlewood)
  • Team17 (My Time at Portia and The Survivalists)

The gaming merchandise company, Item Label, is also contributing a special edition Farming February hat to benefit the campaign.

Fans of these titles and other farming-inspired titles can tune into Farming February streams throughout the week, referencing the official Farming February schedule to see who is streaming and when. In between streams, running 24/7 for the full week of Farming February, a Massachusetts farm is lending their chicken cam to No Kid Hungry so that viewers can visit a real farm via Twitch as well.

“We are so grateful for what these communities have made possible,” Warner says. “We’re excited to make an impact for the 1 in 4 kids in America living with hunger and shine a new spotlight on these streamers, their favorite games, and the larger agriculture community.”
